The next generation technology of Satellite TV viewing is coming to you with C-Band Satellite TV. In fact it is not new but was working behind the scene for programming by TV channels to the Satellites and reaching millions of homes in U.S. through the Satellite TV business houses like Direct TV and Dish Network.
High Definition TV – or HDTV is a term familiar to many people, whereby they understand the video image quality and audio sound quality of TV programs are perfect and far superior than the ordinary Cable TV programs. This is what is enabled by C-Band, a big and wider spectrum of television broadcasting process.
Many of us do not know that most programming originate from Satellites that are 22,300 miles away in orbit. There are 20 plus C-Band Satellites out there and these are used as the frequency spectrum of C-Band by the broadcasters, the networks, the HBO’s, SHOWTIMES, ESPN, TNT, CNN, Home Shopping Clubs etc. to reach the audience.
But if only you have the proper receiving equipment for these broadcasts you can view these first generation broadcasts airing their programs – through a clean, true 480i analog or digital source as also 1080i High Definition programming. For this the equipment required to be installed is a BIG MESH DISH – some 6 foot or larger – (popularly known as “BUD”).
In practice, both Direct TV and Dish Network are using these “Big Dishes” at various locations. But what happens is they have to downlink the programs they provide to their customers, digital process the signal that is compress the video and audio to fit as many channels as they can get into, with limited bandwidth they are working on. You can understand that if more channels are added more compression and more compromising on quality of the programs.
Then Direct TV and Dish Network have to re-uplink the digitally compressed programs to their viewers with 18” Dish Antenna, which distorts the compressed video images and audio sounds, brought to the TV sets in the homes of viewers.
Now you know what is the best way to receive High Definition TV programs. Instead of routing them through the small 18” Satellite TV Dish, you can go for the Big Dish – C-Band Satellite TV directly. Of course the installation is little bit costly – Systems start $899 and up; a full blown HDTV system will be approximately $1999. However the advantage is what a C-Band customer pays as average monthly bill is less than half of both small dish TV companies and cable companies! Choice is yours.
