Direct TV – Its Reaches in the U.S. Consumer Base

The impact of TV boxes at homes in the European countries had started decades back.  People were fascinated by the entertainment of this visual medium, which was hitherto confined to the celluloid world, originated from the Hollywood of America, being brought to their drawing rooms.  The awe was identical with the change from silent movies of the inception to the “talkies” of mid 40s screened in cinema halls. The television viewing technology has crossed many a milestones enroute to begin direct beaming of signals from satellites in orbit to the viewers’ homes.

Taking advantage of this sophisticated television technology, the promoters of “Direct TV” in America launched their innovative concept in 1994. It was the time that the urban and suburban populace of the U.S. nation was accustomed to the services of cable TV connections and they were obligated to the whims and fancies of the local cable TV operators to provide them the chance of viewing their desired channels. But their poor cousins in the rural areas were negated even this facility because of non-existence of cables for TV telecasts. Direct TV shattered all these barriers in one stroke, by making available multi-channel TV programs, with crystal clear digital quality viewing, much to the ecstasy of urban, suburban and rural masses of the United States, through installation of an 18 inch dish antenna.

Again it was Direct TV to first facilitate customer interaction through on-screen program guide and pay per view ordering by remote control. Today thanks to Direct TV, consumers all over U.S. in millions rejoice TV viewing by pressing the buttons to view as many as 220 channels of their choice and also tune in to 36 music channels of CD quality.

Sitting pretty as the grand daddy of all the later year satellite TV systems, Direct TV still holds the predominant position.  Their expansion is never ending that today the reach of Direct TV goes beyond the home consumers to multitude commercial locations such as airports; restaurants; hotels; bars; hospitals and so on through out the American nation.
