When people were offered cable TV connection to their individual homes, from the common antenna TV channels that were available locally at best, they were immensely pleased.  Viewing the TV channels that are most popular for commercial entertainment through cable TV connections was considered a revolution then.  The drawbacks in this arrangement showed up only later – like disproportionate service charges in the form of monthly subscriptions; inability to view live sports events, held internationally due to non-availability of telecasting rights by the cable TV operators; poor video and audio quality; repeated calls made to the operators’ office to set right the problems and repeated disappointments in not getting a satisfactory service and so on.

The present day revolution of Satellite TV connection mitigates a lot of the hassles people went through.  The picture quality and that of the audio are superb; only one time installation expenses and there upon monthly subscriptions reasonably charged on the basis of channel availability; the facility to make the subscriptions through remote interface; chance of viewing nearly 200 channels aired from many countries globally and so on.

But here again, the monopoly of the Satellite TV business by just two giants – Dish and Direct TV – leaves a lot to be desired by many people, who are fast jumping up to viewing Satellite TV channels.  The promotional offers and counter offers by these two mega Satellite TV business houses notwithstanding, people are looking beyond Satellite TV for any viable alternatives.  But as of now Satellite TV viewing is catching up everywhere and it will take few more years to get more alternatives for the present entertainments provided by Satellite TV channels.

Installing High Definition TV sets and hiring DVDs for viewing movies and videos through renting business houses is suggested by some corners.  But the eventual alternative for Satellite TV will be, instead of installing a Dish Antenna and seeing through the TV screens, there is an excellent opportunity of viewing Satellite TV through computers.
